Camera, Action!

I recently was able to purchase a Nikkon D-90, which is a top of the line digital camera.  I could have bought a cheaper model, since one of  the main reason was so I could use it for my photography class, however I plan to use this camera for my design classes as well, so I decided to save and spend the extra cash.

The more I use my camera the more comfortable I am getting with it, and I have to say that although I love digital photography, I wish I knew how to use a film camera, developing the film and making my own prints, but I am saddened and disappointed by the eye-opening fact that the school does not have a photo lab.  How can you teach photography without a photo lab?  I guess I will learn how to use a film camera on my own.

Hey Sarah you are not going to be able to just learn film photography because its extremely differnt than Photoshop. Of course you could learn about it but you’d have to learn about chemicals and how much is needed for developer, fixer, etc..

My advise is go with black and white photography I used to do it for 3 years at my high school and it’s really not that bad. I have heard that when working with color you have to be in total darkness the whole entire time. The cool thing about black in white is that you only have to process film in pure darkness and than you can develope photos and stuff with certian lights (the red ones you see in movies).

Anyways blacks and white photography from what I have heard is dying away because it costs a lot of money and because people are loosing money because everyone can use Photoshop. Also finding a place to develop(i.e-a dark room is going to be challanging unless you can find someone who has one in there home or if a school will let you use one)

Black and white photography is cool because you can learn things that photoshop can’t such as how much true contrast is needed in photographs so they look perfect.

Also, you are lucky to have a nice camera don’t let it just sit and rust and let the world see what you see!!
